Saying Goodbye to Acne: Effective Treatments for Clear Skin

Did you know 80% of people will have suffered acne at some point in their life. Acne can be a stubborn, and as a fellow sufferer, I can honestly understand how frustrating and annoying it can be, but with the right plan of treatments (and not the ones recommended to you on tik-tok!) you can say goodbye forever and say hello to clearer, smoother skin.

Though it can take several months of treatments to notice improvement and patience is key, there are treatments for acne which do work! Let's explore some of the most effective options for treating acne and acne scarring:

The Basics: A good skincare regime

Start with the basics: a good skincare routine. Look for products containing ingredients like salicylic acid, benzoyl peroxide, or retinoids. These can help unclog pores, reduce inflammation, and promote cell turnover. Whilst you may experience some ‘purging’, where the skin gets worse before it gets better. Consistency is key, so stick to your routine even when you're not breaking out.

Medical grade skincare will penetrate deeper, and contain higher concentrations of active ingredients that highstreet skincare, so for severe acne, investment in high quality skincare is key. At Aesthetics by Ellie, I am partered with Alumier, CellDerma and GetHarley for the right recommendations personalised for your skin.

Chemical Peels

Chemical peels are a popular choice for treating acne and improving skin texture. They work by exfoliating the top layer of skin, unclogging pores, and reducing acne scars. Different types of peels are available, ranging from mild to deep, depending on your skin's needs and tolerance.

Microneedling

Microneedling, also known as collagen induction therapy, involves using tiny needles to create controlled micro-injuries in the skin. This stimulates collagen production, improves skin texture, and reduces acne scars. It can also enhance the penetration of topical products for better results.

Don't Touch

Though it might be obvious, one of the best treatments for acne is avoiding the urge to touch your skin. Picking and squeezing breakouts can spread the bacteria and cause scarring. We know it’s hard, but it’s worth it!

Achieving clear skin takes time and commitment. Be patient with your skin and stick to your treatment plan. Avoid picking or squeezing acne lesions, as this can worsen scarring and inflammation.
